If your subwoofer is powered, it will have its own amplifier and will not affect the receiver.

If your subwoofer is passive (unpowered) and you are using your receiver to power it, then you have to make sure the receiver can handle low impedance speakers. Even if the receiver's manual says that the receiver is for 8ohm speakers, it does not mean that it cannot handle 6 ohm speakers. You just need to turn the volume down and periodically check the receiver to make sure it is not getting too hot. Eventually, you should purchase an external amplifier that can properly handle low impedance speakers.

If a receiver/amplifier can handle 4 ohm or 6 ohm speakers, it does not matter if you mix the different impedance speakers.
