I think the question here isn't between optical and digital coax, but rather optical or digital coax vs. 6 channel analog.

The 6 channel analog will allow the output of LPCM 5.1 wich is a lossless track on most bluray titles, you cannot pass this track over digital connections because they do not allow the bandwidth. If you want the Dynamic range of LPCM then invest in 3 sets of RCA's (Analogs) and connect up that way to your receiver your tx-sr702 does have 5.1 analog inputs.

these different connections have less to do with volume output,& more to do with dynamic range.
