The scene and the track that bobbyh64 mentions is a perfect example. It's a great scene as is with moody atmosphere and it's wonderfully lit, but with that track...WOW! It just ramps up the tension and that classic theme feels like it belongs there.

I was puzzled why we didn't get an updated version of the classic Laurie's Theme. I liked the new theme just fine, but it's so brief that it's barely associated with Laurie throughout the rest of the movie.

Also, I'm not sure why they rushed through the opening credits to the point that the opening Halloween Theme was truncated. It's such an incredible opening and I would have milked it for all it's worth and slowed it down a bit. The soundtrack has the full version and it plays much better.

Of course, this is all just nit picking. No doubt Carpenter's going to knock it out of the park with the scores to Kills and Ends, I just hope his music is used much more strategically and judiciously throughout those films.
^This!!!
I too remember when I first saw the film and being surprised how little score there was. And also how the opening credits were rushed. They should’ve let the audience have time to read all the credits and look at the pumpkin doing its thing. Felt very rushed, and the edits to the main theme definitely felt weird. They removed certain sections but also repeated a section that doesn’t even play out that way on the album.

I also think the track “The Shape Hunts Allyson” should’ve been at least twice as long. That was basically the hit single of the album and it’s just under a minute. And in the movie the Shape should’ve actually hunted Allyson. All we see is her running away a la Laurie in Halloween 1978 but we never see the Shape going after her. It would’ve been cool if she had to run through some woods or something and show Michel going after her with that iconic music playing.

The film needed more scenes that let the score have room to breathe since the music is such a major part of these movies.
