Default Mine 9 2019

Mine 9
This is a review of my brother's movie he is the director and I wanted to be upfront with that. Mine 9 is a fictional thriller about 9 miners trapped in a mine with 1 hour of oxygen. It is a very dark suspenseful movie it has elements of a horror film and a drama. I would say gore is on the higher side not quite the Revenant but pretty intense. The production values are top notch. I preordered the blu ray but it was not in yet so I bought it on amazon prime. The movie is not overly long and it is well edited there is not much let up. It did have a theatrical release mostly through Marquee Cinema chain and private theaters such as Alamo Draft House just to name one of many.

Video film shot in 4k every bit of dust blood gas fumes soot all clearly visible in low light levels through out the film. You can see all the fine detail I commented to my brother that the stream on amazon prime almost looked 4k as far as I could see. He said they did shoot in 4k and I believe you can tell that is true.

Audio lots of rumbles buzzing eerie atmospheric sounds screams groans and collapsing structures. The sound stage is wide and enveloping the 5.1 soundtrack has alot of ambiance from surround speakers rain and settling sounds of the mine accompany ambient sounds that were intentionally chosen by the director to be sounds used on screen in different parts of movie just not filler. Upmixing to my atmos system was a treat the height effects upmixed where they should be rain mine collapse electric current and ambiance keep the height channels very busy. The surround mix is of the active variety the LFE is not as deep as you would see in an action movie but very effective and prominent.

The DVD and Blu-ray editions will be available at major retailers, including Walmart, Amazon.com, Best Buy and Target, and include special bonus features including subtitles, deleted scenes, filmmaker commentary by Mensore, FX producer Anaitte Vaccaro and cast members Mark Ashworth (Magnificent Seven), Clint James (Fear The Walking Dead), Kevin Sizemore (Woodlawn) and Erin Elizabeth Burns (Ozark).

If you want to see just how terrifying and harrowing the inside of a coal mine can be give Mine 9 a spin!
