Reporting back now that I have the disc
I haven't watched it all the way through, but the transfer is a lot better than I expected. It suffers from the usual issues with 1080p scans of pre-digital movies, in that any scenes with optical printing involved tend to be soft and blurry (in the case of this film, that's mostly the opening titles and the various on-screen titles during the film). Outside of those, they've done a good job with the scan and it looks, I would say, the best it ever has (certainly better than when I saw it in a preview theatre back when I used to be a movie reviewer!) There's the grain you'd expect from Super 35 but that's part of the movie's aesthetic. I wouldn't call the transfer "soft" at all - aside from those opticals.
The audio is DTS-HD but only 2.0, no surprise there since the film was released with matrixed Dolby Stereo audio.
And to answer my speculation above, the transfer is 24p.
This disc's a bit of a relic; the copy I got was still pristine sealed and had a sticker on the shrinkwrap saying "PS3 Compatible". An advertising brochure was in the box advertising Toshiba products including a combo TV/DVD player, a portable DVD player and the "Regza" LCD television
