I saw FEMME FATALE opening night in 2002 - sadly, I haven't seen a De Palma film theatrically since, and his films are made for the big screen.
I did revisit my Warner DVD recently and as (wonderfully) bonkers as the plot is, this is a terrific example of De Palma playing with genre conventions and archetypes in a way so intoxicatingly stylish and cinematic you can't help but succumb to it - and De Palma's devilish sense of humor is always a pleasure.
Antonio Banderas is actually pretty great - and funny - as our rather befuddled "hero", and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos is so statuesque and sexy as our "bad girl" femme fatale she functions almost purely in visual terms - I don't know that I can call it a great performance, but you can't take your eyes off of her.
WAC, Shout/Scream, Criterion, I don't care - some label release this deliriously entertaining film sometime soon!
