If they went on to remake episodes 4-6, it could be argued that 1-3 were attached to the remade ones and the original 3 from the 70s and 80s would again be able to stand alone, unique.
As far as movies being remade, 4-6 seem like a better idea than most, if only to tie them up with the style of 1-3. Not saying it's good or needed, but it wouldn't be absolutely terrible I think. A better alternative than the "special edition" tinkering, at the very least.

ahhh gotya. yeah makes sense. i'm sure star wars will be remade someday, once all the fans of the beloved originals are long gone
