Default Some DVDs > Blu-ray, and Grain is "bad"

Ok, I don't know if this topic has been covered yet, as I searched the forum for it. I have noticed alot of movies are being released on Blu-ray format which are really are designed for Blu-ray and others that don't look any better or EVEN WORSE than their DVD counterpart. I reciently rented a couple of movies; Midnight Meat Train, 300, 3:10 to Yuma. I was all but impressed with the image (actually Meat Train was down-right unwatchable). On then on the other end of the spectrum; Iron-Man, The Dark Night, Transformers; were undeniably amaizing. I still, for the life of me, wonder why someone would want to pay almost double for a Blu-ray version of an older movie vs. watching the DVD vesion upscaled to 1080. I think there should be a resource to come to when deciding on which movies are worth getting on Blu-ray and which are not. Any comments?
