Take alligator out of the equation . Sylvie---there's nothing Loki could have done to have been BORN a female, she was pruned as an adolescent. She is NOT a "variant" of our Loki but someone from a complete different reality/timeline/universe.

Now mwynn helped me to understand a little bit better because it's easy to think the show is trying to say there is only "ONE sacred timeline" when apparently HWR was allowing other universes to exist.

So Sylvie was a variant of something her timeline's Sylvie should have done. She was a Sylvie variant.
