That's sort of how Warner Bros. did the
Zack Snyder's Justice League; it was made for HBO Max, but a physical media version is also available.
I don't follow these things all that closely (I should, though), but I think the wait time for a physical release of ZSJL was brief. Wasn't it?

Star Trek: The Motion Picture. You're on target about that!
