People get really hung up on why a movie is important to cinema/culture, or why it shouldn't be important, and they try to quantify it with milestones like "First time X happened!" to be responded by the "Well actually..." crowd, when really the answer is usually what you said: It just resonated with people.
Star Wars wasn't the first space fantasy, but it resonated with people in a big way. So did
Rocky, so did
The Matrix, and yeah, so did
Black Panther.
The people who try and put down Black Panther by saying "Blade was the first black superhero!" are completely missing the point.
