I have a Toshiba DVD recorder. They are around $120 at Best Buy. I have been recording HD movies via an HDMI upconverted Toshiba DVD recorder. I have red, green, blue from DirecTV box into video in on recorder (the HDMI out goes directly to TV). Then HDMI out of the DVD recorder into the 2nd HDMI input in the TV. I live in AZ and recently made DVD's of the Cards/Eagles NFC title game
and the Super Bowl
I think it records in 480p but the playing of the DVD in that recorder, or your bluray player cleans up the DVD recording pretty nicely.
As far as bluray recorders, I haven't researched that much. I would imagine if there are any available, they are pricey.
