Good choice in returning that piece of junk LG Dual player...you will enjoy, and made a good choice IMO, on the PS3.
Unfortunately, in order to enjoy anything other than DD or DTS, you will have to upgrade your system. TrueHD, DTS-MA and LPCM can only be transmitted via HDMI. So to answer your question directly, your current setup is the best you can do with what your Bose system can handle.
