I haven't read the entire thread and don't know where you stand on the movies themselves, but I think you're wrong based on the critics. Obviously everyone has their own opinion and it's next to impossible to gauge how good a movie is, but Star Trek (2009) has an overall rating based on 253 professional reviews of 8.1 out of 10 (based on data collected by RT.COM). That puts it in pretty rare company. If you go by the so called
top critics it was rated a 7.9 out of 10 out of 36 reviews.

Star Trek: First Contact 91%
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 90%
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home 84%
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country 82%
