I stand corrected, now that I think about it, Paxton talked about his first directorial debut for Disney. But then again, I thought he said that was his first....nevertheless, he did a pretty good job covering the US Open back in 1913 and it was cool knowing that he lived near a Country Club collecting golf balls for Ben Hogan.
One thing that surprised me about the game back then was if your golf ball was obstructed by your competition on the green, you had to find a way around that. Even surprising was that Francis Ouimet (the character the story is based on) had a ten-year-old caddie.
After the film, had fun doing research on both Ouimet and Harry Vardon. It's interesting to have played golf for so long but I really had no knowledge of the players or how the game was played back then.
