One major concern I've always had with the Street Fighter series for Super Street Fighter 2 and SF2 (haven't played enough of 3, 4, 5), is how overpowered Ryu and Ken were compared to every other character regarding the basic 3 kicks and 3 punches.
Their kicks and punches land so much more effectively than any other character. They're like the main go-to characters for winning.
DeeJay has some good kicks thankfully, and Sagat some good kicks.
I'm a Bruce Lee fan, but that guy in Super SF2 was not nearly as effective as Ken.
Dhalsim? Forget it. I could throw a long punch and all Ryu had to do was punch my punch and Dhalsim got knocked back. Not good.
Guile, without his flip kick special move, he's got some awkward horizontal kicks and weak punches.
Chun Li has some decent kicks. Her slaps, not that effective.
Thunder had some power, but still not as effective as Ken's kicks/punches.
E. Honda, clumsy basic attacks.
Cammy, a decent double spin horizontal strong kick, but that's about it.
Blanka, okay basic attacks.
Zangief, short ranged basic attacks.
The Boxer had some decent punches (no kicks).
The Matador guy with the mask, decent claw attacks for basic punches.
I've played the series for years, and tried each character to master, but had to rely on their special attack moves all the time for most of them beyond Ken and Ryu.
So for basic kicks and punches, Ken and Ryu are the easy choices.
