Regarding the vertical distortion, it is a known issue with this film. I believe David Lean himself said that the intense heat of the location filming did actual damage to the negative of this film. So, also nothing to worry about, this is as good as it gets without altering the film digitally, which is a big no-no.

OK, thanks for the info scififan, I would
not want this film "digitalized" so-to-speak.
I confess, this was the first time watching LOA on our 55" LG OLED which is probably why I noticed the graininess and the vertical distortion.
I'm very happy I picked this up on release day. worth every penny
And IMHO it was an absolute travesty that Peter O'Toole lost the Oscar to Gregory Peck.
