Default Besides BD Live, what other uses does a flash drive have in a samsung 1600?

I've had the Samsung 1600 blu-ray player for nearly a month and it works wonderfully. I'm extremely happy with the Blu-ray format and I'm building a movie collection.

Since I have been so happy with the movies I still haven't connected the player to the net and I haven't used the BD Live feature yet, I also don't have a flash drive yet. My question is that if the flash drive will only be able to download from the blu-ray player or does the player also read what the flash drive contains? If it does, what files is this player capable of reading. I tried putting a divx disc but it said it couldn't read it. Is it possible that the player can read the avi filed from the flash drive?

I just would like to know what is the full funtion of the flash drive with the Samsung 1600 blu-ray player to determine if I just need a simple 1gb drive or should I buy a 32gb dive because I will be able to make good use of all that space?
