I feel really stupid asking this. I haven't really kept up with audio equipment over the years. I've noticed that you don't see too many equalizers any more and I am kind of curious as to why?

I like being able to control bass and treble. Most recievers have presets and I'm not really very happy with them. I'm curious if you can even hook up an equalizer to a modern reciever due to hdmi cables carrying both audio and video. Or if it would even be worth it. I also no longer see reverb options on recievers either. I know I'm showing my age here, but I really am curious about this.
