There is a member here who built a white cabinet with his father. He has Klipsch speakers. I think it looks very nice in his setup.
However, I agree that they are becoming a little outdated. Wall mounted flat screens and/or HT cabinets are they new way to go.
Look through the galleries with your wife/family and see if there are any setups that everyone agrees on.
