The new PS5 slim may have a similar problem as Xbox One and Xbox Series X due to needing to go online to pair the Blu-ray drive with the system. If the pairing can be undone by a factory reset then the system will easily be able to be put into a useless state after Sony's support has ended.
Hopefully a factory reset doesn't undo the Blu-ray drive pairing.
