PS3, had a Sony PS3 console required update (so it would allow my console to play a specific blu ray 3D disc) that literally almost bricked/disabled completely my PS3. It was updating, and stalled at 99%, ending up in a constant, endless loop and all menus were gone, no access to anything but the update screen. I had to use a computer to install the update on a USB stick, then mess with it after 39 or so attempts till it finally gave the update USB a chance to reinstall it. Total near disaster and my PS3 was working fine for years.

Actually regarding PS3, that one still has the CMOS lock out.
This means that when the CMOS battery runs out (not if), and Sony shuts their TIME servers down, literally *all* DLC and downloaded content *will not work anymore*.
Yes, Sony was stupid or evil enough to require an up to date accurate date on the console, even when the end date of the content is 12/31/9999.
This was never patched. They patched the PS4, which had the same issue, but even refused to play discs, but not the PS3.
