I only wouldn't have a problem with a one-time online activation if it was impossible to put the system in a state that needed to be activated again.
Xbox One and Xbox Series X are extremely easy to put into a state that needs to be re-activated online and that's why I won't buy them. Plenty of Xbox consoles will become bricks after Microsoft ends support.
If Sony ever releases a console with the same issues then I will stop buying PlayStation as well.

I still think this isn't rational. It's not easy to put them in that state if you're trying not to. Replace requires an internet connection for a one time setup with cannot be broken beyond repair and it's the same thing. I mean do whatever you want but I think this objection is more philosophical than practical.
