While in the ideal world a 2TB optical disc should be used with both a new lossless video and audio codec, in the real world the new disc format might only be 200GB with each layer supporting 50GB. The 8K Blu-ray players would most likely be forward and backwards compatible with all HDMI displays using 480i,480P, 720P, 1080i, 2K, 4K, and 8K resolution.
The first article mentioning that a 8K Blu-ray format might be coming, was mentioned in January of 2018. Now if streaming wins the format war against all optical disc media, then 2026 would most likely only see a new 8K streaming format to purchase and rent movies.

If streaming did win the format war, I wonder what happens to any automated BOT’s that were designed to protect and defend the Blu-ray format. Hopefully they are not deleted and instead are transferred into a android or robotic body.
