I have a Panasonic Blu Ray player BD80.
The main problem seems to be background noise when music is playing in the background. The noise is like wind going over a microphone or a heavy bass. Because of this it is very hard to hear the dialog and this is even when the volume is up to 100.

I also have a Panasonic plasma.

These are the settings for the TV

Digital audio preference settings.
MPEG

SPDIF Selection.
Auto

MPEG Optical level.
0db

Mode.
Speech

Speaker distance to wall.
Up to 30cm

Panasonic BD80 settings.

Sound.
Dymamic range compression
auto
Digitial audio output
Dolby D/Dolby D +/Dolby trueHD set on PCM
DTS/DTS-HD set on PCM
MPEG Audio set on PCM
BD-Video secondary audio set on to on.

PCM down conversion set to off
Downmix is set to stereo
High clarity sound is disabled.
