I don't know which 4K is truer to source, but I'm also inclined not to put too much stock in "director approved" labels...

i certainly wouldn't take an old DVD as a reference for the grading btw. that said, Plaion looks like better encoded even if i think they pushed a tad too far the HDR knob with the results of appearing a bit "too much". well before the SS release i thought Plaion was a bit "sharpened" (while i did like it very much):

SS appears to be a little less "pop" in a good way but the encoding it's not the best ever seen. in fact, as per the booklet in the LE, this is NOT a Fidelity joint.
