I can count on one hand how many times I have experienced playback issues on standard Blu-rays over the years, but I have experienced more freezes on 4K UHD Blu-rays on my Sony X700, although my player has all of the latest updates.
The vast majority of my 4K UHD Blu-rays play perfectly without incident, though, and, even when the freeze glitches happen, they usually play through fine if I skip back a few seconds and try the scene again.

4K UHD Blu-rays look better than the standard Blu-ray counterparts across the board to my eyes, but it is not a day-versus-night improvement like the jumps from VHS to DVD to standard Blu-ray. 4K UHD Blu-rays simply have more "oomph" to them.

The improvement in picture quality with 4K UHD Blu-rays comes with a disclaimer in my eyes, though. I have noticed with a handful of older well-loved movies that 4K UHD Blu-rays look more "sound stage" with regard to lighting, although I watch all of my movies with the cinema frame rate instead of "soap opera" frame rate. I have also noticed that a couple of 1970s drive-in type movies look a bit too vibrantly colorful on 4K UHD Blu-ray, but that is a case-by-case thing.
