Yep, the trilogy was shot on film. In fact when the first film was released no film had been entirely shot using a digital camera yet (Star Wars Episode 2 was the first, though episode one did have two scenes shot in the same manner).

I'm with you there, and I'll be buying the extended editions as well, and will have no regrets owning both.
