It works alongside your faster refresh rate to smooth motion by interpolating or making up frames in between frames instead of just doubling them. By turning automotion up higher it does this more drastically giving that 3d effect lots of LCD users like. Your tv will always show 120 hz no matter what settings you pick. Hope this helps
