Like all movies, whether you like a film or not is based solely on subjective criteria. The four films of Terrence Malick are what I spent two full years writing my thesis on, and I can definitely understand those that think his films are boring or uninteresting. The reason I understand this is because he is, quite simply, one of the most polarizing directors of all time. He makes films in a very specific fashion, and only after watching and analyzing them for awhile does one truly understand not only the films, but the man behind them. Of course, most people do not have the patience or desire to spend the amount of time necessary to do so, which is why I will never criticize someone for not liking his films or say that someone does not understand them (that is a given, unless the requisite time is spent analyzing them).

At the same time, saying you walked out of the movie after an hour and a half and still attempting to render an opinion is baffling to me. I don't think anyone can judge a film without seeing the entire thing. It would be like reading Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" and quitting less than 100 pages in (he purposely made the first 100 pages incredibly boring, so as to weed out the non-determined/serious reader). This is a film that is especially important to watch the whole thing to see what Malick's intention is. Only in the last scene of the film, with the two trees swaying side by side in the wind, is the point of the movie truly expressed.
