Just wanted to make a record here and say that I have the HD remasters from HBOMAX and they're so gorgeous and definitely my preferred way to watch (over DVD). Properly mastered from the film and very detailed.
Yes, the special effects shots stick out a bit (due to those shots being up-converted from standard-definition, so you know something is going to happen in that shot, like Superman flying in or out, an explosion, etc.).
But it's fine.
Comparing the DVD frame with the HD remaster, at first I noticed the HD was missing slivers of picture, sometimes slightly zoomed in, but then I noticed a lot of shots where there was actually more picture and it was slightly zoomed out. It's simply very slightly reframed here and there. It's gorgeous.
I think I've said 'gorgeous' enough.
I'm thrilled to be able to experience this series for the first time in this format. I just think this HD remastered picture makes it so much more enjoyable compared to DVD. Just viewing bits here and there (and listening to that podcast interview of the series-creator) has me really excited to see this series.
I remember the night the show premiered. I was just a little kid. I didn't watch it, but would see the commercials and just remember it premiering, thinking I'd like to watch it all someday as I'll only watch it if I could see every moment in order (back then was difficult to keep up with things before internet).
