Then from 1950 to 1955 is when the highest amount of 3D movies were produced for audiences (at the time, this was record was broken after 2009)
Again in the 1980's the trend came back, think Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D, and Jaws 3-D.
And most recently the 2010's, kicking off with Avatar reigniting the 3D craze.
So if you follow the logic here, we are on a 30-year cycle for 3D, which means around 2040 you can expect this to come full circle once again, last for a few years before everyone gets sick of it, or thinks it sucks.
