I live in Hawai'i and I can't recall anything as of late that is as big of a show as this is (well, maybe when Iam Tongi won Amercian Idol). Cultural practitioners, teachers, politicians, kama'aina and malihini all are claiming this series to be nothing short of monumental and historic.
It is the most expensive series AppleTV has produced (around $34 million per episode), majority of the eps in 'olelo Hawai'i (which I have studied and can thankfully comprehend), and finally shows Hawai'i in its precolonial times. There were lots of creative liberties made but overall very entertaining.
