The size of the collection is irrelevant; only that losing a larger collection is a bigger kick in the nuts. People standing in line to get rid of whatever, is also irrelevant to the digital discussion. If history has taught us anything, it's that people on the whole are stupid. I watched when BBY started selling cds for $9.99 and people stood in line to sell vinyl. Now they're buying vinyl, standing in line to sell the cds they bought. Bottom line is show me a crack addict, I'll show you a collection for sale.

Maybe the same thing will happen with physical movies? Who knows? I agree digital is easy to pull up and get playing. You're well aware part of the problem is we don't actually own it even though we've paid for it. It could get scrubbed any day. Itunes is probably safe, at least for now. But profit/loss is examined everyday. Look at paramount getting bought out recently. Warner circles the drain. Who knows what decision will be made in the future?

Another interesting point is when movies are upgraded automatically. Take a look at the "new" CROCODILE DUNDEE: THE ENCORE CUT. You redeemed your code or buy the other version. Does this automatically get upgraded to this new version? What if they decide it should, and so it does? What can you do about it? You could send off an email shouting how you don't like it. But you're still stuck. So we don't own it, we don't control it.
I agree there's room for a digital collection. I'm not totally against it. I'm not worried about it. I've considered it and moved on. But Fail Safe, I think not.
Thank you for your corrections, taking the time to dissect my post and for pointing out my inconsistencies.

Bottom Line: Digital is great, I'm not worried about it.
