It never hurts to remove and re-seat the HDMI cable connection, or even try a different HDMI cable. There could be a problem with the HDMI cable plugs, or the HDMI receptacle on the receiver. There are 19 connector pins in a single HDMI connector, and they are tiny.

As for the "unknown disc" error, perhaps you have a little dust accumulation on the player's laser lens.
