The PS3 currently (emphasis on this word) does not decode DTS HD High Resolution or DTS HD Master Audio audio tracks. It will process such audio tracks and strip out the core 1.5Mbps DTS Core track, which is still pretty good.

The PS3 correctly handles PCM up to 7.1 and Dolby TrueHD.

In all cases, the audio is output as PCM over HDMI (best results). Otherwise it will downmix to DD 5.1 or PCM 2.0 over optical.

I mentioned the word "currently" because the expectation is that once some standalone players hit the market that can handle DTS-MA decoding natively, Sony will unleash the firmware update that will also allow the PS3 to handle the two codecs mentioned above it currently only partially supports.
