I don't own the HTR-6290, but it's a great receiver. You'll notice a substantial improvement in sound quality, largely due to better DACs, anti-jitter circuitry, and a much improved power supply and amplification system.

It is marketed under two model numbers, the HTR-6290 and the RXV1900. Yamaha used to use both series to distinguish between two distribution channels - hi-fi specialty shops got the RX-V, while online sales and big box retailers got the HTR line. The internal components and features were identical, but the power ratings were measured differently for each channel.

The distinction between the HTR and RXV lines has blurred in recent years though. I don't know if Yamaha still makes a practice of this, but when I bought my HTR-6080 a year ago, the only difference between that and the RX-V861 was the font color on the faceplate. HTRs typically use gold lettering, while the RX-V series uses white. I thought the gold looked better, so I went with the HTR 6080.

Either way you go, you'll have a fantastic receiver.
