In 2006, 2007, and 2008 Pioneer lost money making plasma screens. I was sorry to hear that Pioneer stopped making plasma screens, but it was a wise business decision to stop production. Company's need to produce a profit on a product to be a successful company.
Pioneer still makes BLU-RAY players, A/V receivers, Car GPS units, and car stereos according to last year's press releases from Pioneer. The Pioneer A/V receivers are some of the best on the market with THX certification. The Pioneer BLU-RAY players like the BDP-09FD have excellent video quality but was slower at loading discs compared to the OPPO BDP-83 and Sony PS3. At one time I was interested in purchasing the $2,200 BDP-09FD but then months later for $499 the OPPO BDP-83 came out. I wanted SACD and DVD-Audio playback plus faster loading times, so I decided to go with the OPPO over a Pioneer BLU-RAY player. I really enjoy the Pioneer plasmas and Pioneer A/V receivers.
A reliable source of mine a few months ago mentioned that the Pioneer BDP-09FD is out of production. I never contacted Pioneer to verify if that information s true.
Pioneer did release new 2009 A/V receivers around July/August of 2009. Hopefully Pioneer will also have some new models of A/V receivers in 2010. Pioneer A/V receviers are some of the best in the industry with THX Ultra 2 Plus certification on some models and THX Select2 Plus on other models.
At CES 2010 Pioneer did have some new 2010 car stereos on display that streamed Internet radio stations with a Internet connection.
