External 3.5" USB drive

PROS

1. More space
2. Less expensive per GB
3. Portable
4. Connect to other Macs/PCs - backup programs, MP3 tagging tools etc

CONS

1. Can't store certain copy-protected content from PSN store
2. Bulky - possible aesthetic issues
3. Another power cord plus usb cord to deal with
4. Must be FAT32 (4GB file limit)
5. Need a Mac or Windows utility to format drives larger than a certain size - forget what the XP limit is off hand.

Internal 2.5" drive replacement

PROS

1. Can store copy-protected content from PSN store.
2. Keeps everything neat and tidy. I hate cables
3. Space can be partitioned for Linux
4. One place for all your multimedia files - games, photos, music, videos etc..depending on how much you have that may or may not be possible on one drive.

CONS

1. More expensive per GB
2. One place for all your multimedia files - different strokes and all that.
3. Difficult to do if you don't know how to use a screwdriver
