You know, this leads me to a new idea about why the HD DVD PRG decided to go after Paramount.
After many months of clearly doing separate BD productions, it also became clear that Blades of Glory would be the first title where the BD release exceeded the HD DVD release is audio presentation with a lossless on the BD and none on the HD DVD.
Perhaps it was clear to the HD DVD PRG that this and future (ie Transformers)
key titles would show up HD DVD with inferior HD DVD releases. The Viacom deal effectively put an absolute stop to this, timed perfectly to beat any release from Paramount that had superior Blu-ray Disc specifications.
Of course, this might have worked with Paramount but it looks like New Line is going ahead with different features for the new format so we shall see down the road more examples of HD DVD inferiority.
In any case it would seem that the PRG may have had more than one motivation to spend their 'hard earned money' to get Paramount to drop BD production...
