I've never owed money before. In 2007 and 2008, I've got just about the same amount back, while only making a few thousand less than I did in 2009.
I was expecting maybe $300 or so back, and me owing this much blew my mind. I don't want to waste money by going to H&R Block only for them to tell me what I already know.

What is your filing status? If Head of Household, the tax rates jump from 15% to 25% at $45,500.
