So you are talking aobut a shared connection. which right now all cable companies use. So you could get those speeds provided not too many people in your area are on at the sametime.

But this could be exactly what this new router is doing clearing some headroom for them to get speeds up on shared connections.

The biggest problem is the way telcos and cable companies look at things. I was in an area that was growing like mad. There were 10 new home develoments within 1 mile of me and more other than that. Of those 10 only 1 was getting fiber run to it since Verizon had signed a deal with them to include it in all new homes for them. Just think about the waste here, they put down copper instead of fiber to make all those homes ready. And I am sure this was not an issolated case. And with the cost of the copper they will not want to come back behind very soon to lay fiber.
