Review of Ocean Flame by lovehkfilm
Despite my previous reservations about Taiwan Blu-rays, I purchased Ocean Flame Blu-ray from Pony as a filler with my purchase of Mother Blu-ray from Yes Asia.
This was a much better looking Blu-ray than Miao Miao. The picture quality is very good and highdef. Although it too is marred by dirt and scratches, the color and contrast is excellent. The story is pretty good and Monica Mok is gorgeous in her screen debut. The only downside is that both sound options (Mandarin in DD 2.0 and Cantonese in DD 5.1) are not lossless and not quite original audio. The main cast speak in Mandarin whereas many HK supporting actors speak in Cantonese. So neither audio options quite original. The subtitles also have an annoying fault. Who ever typed the subtitles used I (capitalized i) whenever l (lowercase L) is needed. On screen, it looks terrible.
As usual, there is no extras.
