Asian Media Wiki page on Last Operation Under the Orion
There are not too many Japanese movies about WW 2, at least not with English subtitles. This is a movie about the last Japanese submarine during the final 2 weeks of WW2. As with most movies involving submarines, there is a cat and mouse game, this time with an American destroyer protecting a tanker convoy. Surprisingly the movie was neither pro-Japanese nor anti-war. The only downside to the movie were relatively poor CGI and almost comically wooden acting by the American captain and his XO.
Unfortunately this HK Blu-ray release by Panorama is encoded in 1080i60. You read that right. This is an interlaced transfer rather than 1080p24. However I did not see any obvious combing artifacts, so this may be just stored on disc with 3:2 telecine flag. Sound is pretty good and CIH friendly subtitles are excellent. There is no extras.
