LCD, DLP, LCOS, and plasma displays are fixed panel devices. They only display the full frame. They do not display fields at any time. It is possible for a source set to 1080i to look better that a 1080P source if the display has better deintelacing processing than the source device. Everything else said about the how a fixed panel display processes a signal is correct.
