Check out Blade Runner, Road Warrior, 2001 or Casablanca on Blu. Older movies don't have "a lot more grain" just because they're older. It has to do with how they were shot, lighting conditions, cameras and film stock.
Look at The Wrestler. It's a newer movie but it was intentionally shot on 16mm and doesn't have that "clean" look that you're associating with new movies.
