Default Pairing a PS3 with LCD Monitor

I had the brilliant idea this morning of wanting to use a spare PS3 as a desktop PC. I plan to run Yellow Dog Linux. My question relates to the monitor to pair with the PS3. I would like to get a monitor with native 1080p or better resolution and a high refresh rate 8ms or less. I think a monitor between 24" and 32" would be appropriate for a desktop.

Now to the problem. I have noticed that many of the monitors I would consider (TV's excluded) don't have an HDMI input. Many simply have a DVI or DVI-D input. I remember reading somewhere that certain video functionality of the PS3 (DVD Upscale, full 1080p, etc.) required HDMI on both connection ends. I want this particular PS3 as a PC setup to be able to play video games and watch movies in addition to being a desktop PC. What are my options as far as a monitor or video cable that will solve this particular issue. I would rather not use a TV for a monitor. I know there are HDMI to DVI cables/converters but I am not sure if this will work. Thanks in advance.
