I generally have a problem with remakes but that is only when the film is rubbish or not much new has been done. There are examples of great films that came from remaking the original:
The Thing
Ransom
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Scarface
The Departed
These are the best examples of remakes working and in my opinion they better the originals.
