But after much reflection I think it ended about as well as it could have. In the end the island was just an island and the people on it and the memories they shared were what mattered more than anything else. The ending was touching and quite fitting.

I highly recommend you try and catch the epilogue. It is 11 minutes long and answers a good many questions. It'll be included with the Blu-ray release later this month!
