That is what I was going to ask. It is possible to get extra life out of your old one if it has analog inputs and you have a blu ray player with analog outputs.
That is the route I went and decided to spend a little more on a blu ray player (The Oppo BDP-83) while I save a little longer so I can spend a little more money on a reciver. Naturally the way that shook out is when i had a little more than my original budget for the AVR I wanted, I bought an amp (Emotiva XPA-5) instead because I was able to futher extend the life of my old receiver and use its pre-outs... now I'm saving about 3 times what I had orignally budgeted for a receiver to invest in a pre/pro. But, while I save I still get to listen to all the high def sound on a AVR that is over 10 years old.
